Support the tour

To help raise money for the tour expenses, I created a GoFundMe campaign. The deadline is May 31, 2025, and I’m raising €4,862 (approximately $5,271 USD).

Expenses

All of the following values are still just estimates. Things will change over time, but since I needed a “final” amount to start my GoFundMe campaign, I did some research on what the average expenses would be, so here they are:

Car

Since I don’t own a car at the moment, I will have to buy one. A very decent second-hand car in Portugal can be purchased for up to €2,000. My previous car cost me €1,500, but I want to give myself some headroom, just in case there’s something better available. For such a long tour, I need to find a car that’s reliable.

Car Expenses: Mechanic, Paperwork, and Insurance

After I purchase the car, I will have to transfer the ownership to myself, which costs €65.
Next stop is the mechanic to make sure that everything is 100% working. From my experience with my previous car, assuming that some things need to be replaced or fixed, the bill would be up to €300.
The insurance for my previous car was around €170.
TOTAL = €65 + €300 + €170 = €535

Fuel Consumption

Assuming the car I purchase is an average car that consumes 6.5 liters per 100 km, here’s the breakdown for the whole tour:

  • Average fuel price in Europe: €1.5 per liter.
  • Total distance I will be traveling in 3 months and 23 days (June 1 through September 23): 12,407 km.

With these values, the average car consumes 0.065 liters per km. At €1.5 per liter, that’s €1.5 x 0.065 liters, which means I will be spending €0.0975 per km.
€0.0975 x 12,407 km = €1,209.68 for fuel.

Ferry Germany-Denmark

At one point, I will have to take the ferry from Fehmarn in Germany to Rødby in Denmark. I could go around by land, but I decided to always take unique routes and experience different things along the way. Based on my research, the ferry costs €40 one way (the round trip will be by land).

Food

I won’t be having gourmet meals, of course, so I estimate that I will be spending €7.5 a day on food, on average. As much as this may sound “unrealistic” to some people, trust me, it’s not, for what and how I eat.
I will be on the road for 115 days, so 115 x €7.5 = €862.5 for food.

TOTAL

€2,000 (car) + €535 (car expenses) + €1,209.68 (fuel) + €40 (ferry) + €862.5 (food) = €4,647.18

GoFundMe Fees

GoFundMe charges 2.9% + 30 cents per transaction, so I need to raise more than €4,647.18 to cover those fees.

I’m aware that it’s hard to predict how much each person will donate, but I worked with an average donation of €20 per person, just to give me an overall idea. With that amount, I need to raise €4,862 (approximately $5,271 USD) so I can then deduct the fees and end up with the €4,647.18 I need.

Again, all of these values I’m presenting are estimates. Along the way, things will most definitely change, and I will adjust the campaign goal to meet those new values, as well as share that new info online.
